We believed it and we continue to believe it 11 years later.

The dream of bringing an International Course to Turin, a course that was previously only possible by moving to study in America for a long time. Too much for many pockets of ordinary people, people like us at GM Drum School.

And Maestro Sergio Bellotti, now Associate Professor at the most prestigious Music University of the World, the Berklee Music College of Boston, who for 11 years has been coming to Turin to give his course to some students that I can receive an American University education while staying in your own city.

With extremely low costs, and without any gain from our Association that is proud of the Honor of being able to provide something that would otherwise be impossible for students musicians of level who do not have great financial resources to go to Live for a time in the United States of America and study there.

But Maestro Sergio Bellotti is not only a great Teacher, besides being Professor of Jazz Improvisation at the Conservatory of Italian Switzerland, as a musician he has crossed the most prestigious stages in the world participating in the Montreal Drum Fest 2003, Cape Breton International Drum Fest 2004, 2005, and 2006; Berklee World Percussion Festival 2005 to 2014, PASIC 2005 and 2009, Kosa Festival 2009 to 2013, Bari in Jazz Festival 2010, Beantown Jazz Festival 2010;  Somerville Jazz Fest 2014 and accompanying artists such as Nathan East, Robben Ford, The Platters, Bob James, Wayne Krantz, Tom Scott, Dan Siegel, Rocco Ventrella, Mike Stern, by Joe Louis Walker for his 2019 world tour ( blues hall of hame inductee , grammy nominated grammys artists ) and many others.

"A day off" in Turin, visiting, drinking coffee, taking a few photos and chatting with our friends at GM Drum School.
I met Gigi Morello thanks to a mutual acquaintance, but I must say that I got to see him at the opera, together with Giulia Cardia, on the occasion of the important initiative "Torino Rock al'Amatriciana" organized by them in collaboration with the Red Cross of Turin (http://gabriellaruggieri.com/1/torino_rock_all_amatriciana_1207064.html).
Who is Gigi Morello? A respected person. Worthy of respect.
On that occasion, there were people who were politically engaged: let's say there were exponents of various colors, genders and parties.
That for the common good they had left the shirt at home.
He, Gigi Morello succeeded in an epic feat.
How come? Because he's a respected person.
Respect, that thing that today has become a very rare good, almost nowhere to be found!
But back to us, with our visit, we jumped at the opportunity to know something more about the GM Drum School that below (albeit briefly) we present you through the words of Gigi Morello that we thank for the availability.
Good reading

What is GM Drum School?
GM Drum School is one of the largest Italian companies on battery teaching. Born in 2008, it now has seven offices in Italy and one in the USA.
GM Drum School, in particular, is the first 100% Italian educational reality present in the USA.

Where and how did the GM Drum School project come about?
Contrary to that you might think GM Drum School is not born as a musical project but as an aggregate purpose to combine the didactics that represent one of the most mistreated musical instruments in Italy: acoustic drums.
Perhaps not everyone knows that even today the drums is considered a second-floor instrument, sometimes not even associated with "real musical instruments", which does not even have the dignity of being able to be included as a prominent instrument in the plethora of instruments universally recognized as "noble."
Currently the only diploma recognized by the state, close to the drums, is the diploma in percussion, which obliges a student to prepare for years on instruments that despite being percussive do not have much technical similarity and coordination with the battery.
Yet the drums are a backbone in at least 80% of the music heard worldwide, and it has a technique, a complexity and a constructive insertion into music around the world, certainly much superior to other more ephaly ephaly musical instruments or "important."
GM Drum School was therefore concerned to unite the diversity that has always divided small groups of drum didactics into a systematic program that included the importance of the "drum musical instrument" without sectoralizing the program in favor of partisan individualism.
– Gabriella Ruggieri & Partners
Was it hard?
Yes. A lot. Above all, to combine the thousand stylistic diversity and didactic methodology by giving each the importance due, without leading to musical racism, another great scourge of the state music education system, where only certain musical genres are considered " worthy" to be studied.

What were the biggest obstacles?
The big rocks were two, the first the study of style, the second that of the non-uniqueness of the educational path, which is often used for the benefit of the ego of a given teacher who wants to excel by providing his method as "the method to use" while often there are many roads that lead to the same place, each with its own dignity and effectiveness.
In GM Drum School, you don't teach Gigi Morello's method, I'm just the guarantor of education and I make sure it happens in the best way and that the kids get real results.
– Gabriella Ruggieri & Partners
So there's not a single teaching method in GM Drum School, right?
Exact. There are chords on what are the results to be obtained, there are certain exercises necessary to learn how to use your body to the best, in relation to what you have to play, but there is no single method.
Each teacher can teach in his own way. As long as his manner leads to the results set and universally recognized.
In style, however, since each style is to be considered as a language in its own right, with its own words and locutions, we let an expert of that musical style speak, and this does not give importance to anything other than the experience of the language in that certain style. In practice, if a Middle Eastern musician excels in a typical style, for example the Middle East, he has the right to speak more than any professors who have studied years of musical treatises, but that style have never played it and especially lived it.
So for years now we have been proposing masterclasses and clinics of the highest exponents of various musical styles alongside luminaries of the drum technique, for example the great international tactile Dom Famularo, called Drumming's Global Ambassador for the countless places visited and the vast number of people who listen to him speak every year, known for his style of "playing with open hands"; o Aldo Mazza of KOSA International leading a percussive network in stable plan in Canada, USA, China and Cuba; or Sergio Bellotti who teaches at the Berklee College of Music in Boston and who for years has been bringing courses to Italy that were previously possible only by investing thousands of dollars abroad and… many others.
People who teach us technique and styles that allow us to convey with our instrument what we have in our heart.
– Gabriella Ruggieri & Partners
Besides being the "Headmaster" of GM Drum School, who is Gigi Morello as a person? If I were to introduce you, in this context, what would you say about yourself?
First of all, I am a person, a friend, a partner, a father. I also live in today's society full of quirks and meaningless things that are constantly being proposed to us by the authorities, be they political or cultural. I try to live with it better, doing my best, from a constructive perspective…
I am a great lover of culture, I am interested in philosophy, religion, history and sociology, but above all I am interested in cultivating similarities between individuals, rather than focusing on differences.
I'm trying to look for reasons why people should be united, not the ones that might divide them.
We are all different but with some commonalities and I like to focus on the positives.
I work with those who share this view willingly. In this regard I wanted to thank from the heart the people who have been working with me for years to carry on this somewhat atypical reality, where teaching joins a dialogue of ideal brotherhood, my partner Giulia Cardia, who in addition to being an excellent singer is vocal coach and also deals with the administrative part; Cristiano Courage who is now our National Director of Education and has espoused our project for many years with commitment and dedication; Roby Vitari who is our Director for the United States and has agreed to represent an Italian school in the USA, which is not easy at all; Franco Stella the Vice President who has shared with me hundreds of situations since the beginning; all the Directors of THE GM Drum School locations in Italy: Franco Palumbi, Constantine Perin, Andrew Desogus, Leonardo D'Angelo, Fabio Losano, Alessio Benedetto who have, in addition to musical preparation, what is most important for a student: they are good people , who love their students and are the first to be happy when they achieve results.
